As the name implies, this drug contains 500mg of
azithromycin, which is an antibiotic used to treat certain types of infections
caused by bacteria. The most common use of this medication is to cure the
following infections, however others exist as well: sinusitis, pharyngitis,
tonsillitis, otitis media (acute), pneumonia, and community-acquired pneumonia.
This antibiotic offers several benefits over other antibiotics such as
amoxicillin and clarithromycin, and will often be prescribed before these two
medications due to its superior efficiency rate.
What is Azipro 500?
AZIPRO® (azithromycin) is a prescription antibiotic that
fights bacteria in your body. AZIPRO 500 treats many different types of
infections, such as tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, ear infections and
sexually transmitted diseases. It can also be used to prevent certain kinds of
infections in people who are at risk, including those with HIV/AIDS or other
conditions that weaken their immune system.
AZIPRO 500 will not work for colds or flu because these
illnesses are caused by viruses not bacteria.
How does Azipro 500 work?
Azipro 500 is a treatment for bacterial infections, such as
erythrasma, chancroid, granuloma inguinale, lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV),
microsporidiosis and trichomoniasis. It belongs to the azalide family of
antibiotics. Azipro 500 will not work against viral infections like colds or
the flu. It works by stopping bacteria from producing proteins that are needed
to survive. Without these proteins, the bacteria cannot grow or reproduce and
eventually die off.
What are the side effects of Azipro 500?
Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that works by killing
the bacteria that causes your infection. Azithromycin is used to treat many
different types of bacterial infections, such as tonsillitis, bronchitis,
pneumonia, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and others. Azithromycin will not work for
viral infections such as common colds or flu. Side effects are typically rare
but include abdominal pain with cramping; nausea; vomiting; diarrhea; headache;
dizziness; sleep problems (insomnia); rash or itching. If you notice these side
effects stop taking Azipro 500 immediately and consult your physician if
needed.
Is Azipro 500 safe for everyone?
To take Azipro 500, swallow it with a drink of water. If you
forget to take your dose of Azipro 500 at the correct time, just take it as
soon as you remember. Do not take two doses at the same time to make up for a
missed dose. Always finish the course of medication prescribed by your doctor,
even if symptoms improve or go away. You may need more doses than what is shown
on this leaflet or your symptoms may last longer than expected or be more
severe than expected.
How do I take Azipro 500?
Take one tablet of Azipro 500 twice a day, with food.
Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Take Azipro 500 for as long as
your doctor tells you to take it, even if you start to feel better. If you have
